April Fools!

While I don't consider myself to be a big jokester, I decided to engage in a little fun with Sophie this morning. She's been talking about April Fools Day all week, and clearly doesn't quite understand the concept of joking, let alone a practical joke. She thinks it's more like telling a little lie..."I'm all ready for school...No I'm not...April Fools!". All weeks she's been throwing around stuff like that.

Given that cereal is her breakfast of choice these days, I decided to add blue food coloring to the milk. We had just enough milk left for me to add the color directly into the carton so that she wouldn't suspect a thing. When she woke up this morning, the first thing she did was remind me that it was April Fools Day.

I could barely contain my excitement as she and Jack sat at the table, cereal bowls filled to the brim, waiting for their milk to be poured. Since I normally add the milk at the counter, Sophie thought my April Fools joke was to not give her any milk, and she actually thought that was funny. What a rookie.

As I poured the milk into her bowl, she did a bit of a double take and then realized that this was in fact the real joke. We all had a good laugh, and as expected, she opted to eat the cereal with the blue milk, while Jack demanded "real" milk.
